Mission
"Maths For Kidz" believes in empowering students with the study skills and learning resources they need to achieve academic success and confidence. The founder, Deirdre Hatter, has fourteen years of math teaching experience, and currently teaches at Trevor Day School on the Upper East Side. Maths For Kids offers customized 1-on-1 tutoring plans tailored to your child's specific needs and goals. Our tutoring approach is guided by Stanford's Growth Mindset model to improve students' self-esteem and confidence around mathematics.
Deirdre Hatter's Experience
Deirdre has taught math at the high school, middle school, and elementary level to a wide range of learners at both public, charter, and private. Deirdre graduated from San Diego State University with a Mathematics Teaching Credential in 2010. She then went on to earn her Master's Degree from National University in Administration in 2018. Her goal as an educator has been to teach students that they are all “good” at math and to transform what they perceive as “good.” Deirdre has had the pleasure of witnessing students embrace their mistakes and teaches students how to use these mistakes to focus on growth. The process of math is where the beauty lies, and the more students we can teach this to, the more likely they are to grow up and answer the question, “Were you good at math?” in a drastically different way than most adults currently do today. Deirdre has a wide variety of teaching strategies that allows her to reach the needs of all learners. Her teaching experience, coupled with her role as Dean of Students, allows her to build strong connections with students.
Services Offered by Maths For Kids
Math Tutoring During the School Year: Specializing in elementary and middle school level math (through Algebra I). Sessions will focus on teaching material that aligns with the curriculum the student is currently learning in class, support with current homework assignments, ISEE testing preparation, remediation and/or challenges to support growth as needed, and preparing for assessments.
Math Tutoring for Enrichment: Tutor created curriculum to re-teach concepts, challenge your childs' thinking, front load concepts and better prepare your child for upcoming math lessons.
Executive Functioning Tutoring: Focusing on study skills, preparing for upcoming assessments, organization, habits for turning work in on time, work routines and structure, strategies for staying focused, note-taking skills, etc.
